2. Basic Movement
The Paso Doble Basic Movement is a series of small steps forward or back danced in closed or contact position, each step no longer than the dancer's foot and taking one beat of music The weight changes are danced with strong pressure into the ball of the foot with heel just off, or lightly in contact with the floor. Ball of foot contact with floor is released on each step although the toe is not raised. The leader will normally commence with RF (follower LF) and dance four to eight Basic Movements to the counts "1,2,3,4" etc. No turn, or a gradual turn of up to a 1/4 to R or L may be used over four steps. Basic Movement can be danced in place of Sur Place and is used as a link between figures, to achieve a desired alignment and to facilitate correct phrasing. Suggested styling for Member & above levels:
  • When making no turn or when turning to L, use a promenade shape with joined hands lowered.
  • When turning to R, use a counter-promenade shape.
