3. Chasses to Right and Left
A Chassé in Paso Doble is considered to be two steps (i.e. side and close). Chassés can be danced to the right (RL) or left (LR). The weight changes are danced with strong pressure into the ball of the foot with the heel just off, or lightly in contact with the floor. Ball of foot contact with the floor is released on each step, although the toe is not raised. Elevations The Elevations are Chassés danced with a change of height, either high on toes with legs straight or with feet flat and knees slightly flexed. Some possible combinations are:
• 2 chassés up, 2 chassés down
• 1 chassé up, 1 chassé down
• 1 step up, 1 step down
• Other combinations can be used
Suggested styling for Member & above levels: A promenade shape may be used, or changed to a counter promenade shape, particularly if the chassés are curved to R. The change of height gives a strong feeling of change of body position, so a promenade shape could be changed to a counter promenade shape or vice versa as each change of height is achieved.
