A Cucaracha is a group of three steps ended with feet together. Either foot is placed in any apart position with part weight. The most common foot placement is to the side (as illustrated in leader's and follower's charts), however a Cucarahca can also be taken forward, back, diagonally forward or back, or side and slightly forward or back. The first step is taken with partial weight, and then the weight is transferred fully back to the original foot on the second step. The feet then close on the final step.
For examination purposes when danced as a complete figure, the Cucarachas will be taken in closed position with normal or L to R hand hold taking steps 1 and 4 to the side (as in charts), or in Member and above levels, diagonally back for leader and follower.
